The first snowstorm of the season brought down a number of trees in the city as several inches of heavy, wet snow blanketed the five boroughs Thursday.

The snowfall, which began around 1 p.m., picked up in intensity during the evening commute, snarling traffic as well as service at the Port Authority Bus Terminal, New Jersey Transit and the Long Island Rail Road just as folks headed home from work.

New Yorkers reported downed trees across several roadways in Manhattan Thursday evening, including at 81st Street between First and Second avenues in Yorkville, 48th Street and 10th Avenue in Hell's Kitchen and Grove Street in the West Village.

The NWS was reporting 6 inches of snow in Central Park, 5 inches in Rego Park, Queens, 4.3 inches in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, and at least 3 inches in Richmondtown, Staten Island, as of 7 p.m.
