The French national Assembly adopted two bills against the spread of fake news. On Tuesday evening, November 20, deputies by a large majority approved the laws by which the President of France Emmanuel macron hopes to prevent the spread of rumors and false news during election campaigns.

According to the approved laws, parties or candidates receive the opportunity for an accelerated legal procedure to act against publicly disseminated false information within three months before national elections. In addition, the social network Facebook and microblogging service Twitter needs to become more open in relation to the content, which is distributed for a fee.

According to Macron, he wants to protect the «democratic life» in France from fake news. Earlier, the French President accused the Russian media, in particular TV channel Russia Today (RT) and the Agency Sputnik, in purposeful dissemination of speculative information about him during the election campaign. This was done with the aim to influence the French elections, just as it happened in the United States, said Macron.
