The picture was posted on Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's Facebook page with the caption translating as: 'Road selfie During this time we made an important decision.'

The encounter was part of a bilateral meeting in Armenia, where Putin and Rouhani were set to discuss Iran's nuclear deal and the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, according to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

The strait between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman saw Iran's Revolutionary Guards seize British-flagged oil tanker Stena Impero in July, before releasing it on September 27.

In the selfie Pashinyan, Rouhani and Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev smile for the camera, whereas Putin - who is sitting on the bus's back seat - frowns with his hands clasped together on his lap.
They appear to be sitting in a narrow minibus, which has pink light strips along the roof's interior.

The post drew a wave of reaction on Facebook, with some joking about Putin's expression.

One man commented: 'We are going, we are going to a neighbouring village to a disco.'

Another wrote: 'Look at the awkward face of Putin. Half worried that he wouldn't be able to see, but the prime minister's cheerfulness goes to his heart. God forbid, that's the future of our song.'
