In the United States, for the first time in 25 years, all federal prisons were closed. Such a decision was made amid riots that began around the country after the death of an African American detained by policemen George Floyd, the Government Executive reported citing a letter from the US Bureau of Prisons.
“The Prison Bureau introduced a national lockdown at 4:00 p.m. (June 1, according to the east coast of the United States) due to ongoing unrest and protests throughout the country,” the report said.
Earlier in Louisville, Kentucky in the United States, police shot and killed one of the protesters during a demonstration.
Note that US President Donald Trump called on state governors to strengthen law enforcement in protests.
