Norway has signed the largest ever deal with the United States for the acquisition of AMRAAM-D air-to-air missiles for F-35 fighter jets, worth about NOK 5 billion (approximately $500 million). About it reported Ministry of Defense of Norway on Tuesday, November 15.

“This is a very important step both for enhancing Norway’s defense capabilities and for Norwegian-American cooperation,” said Norwegian Defense Minister Bjorn Arild Gram.
He noted that the achievement of such agreements is very important in the current unstable security situation.

The agency informs that the missiles will be transferred to the kingdom until 2028 inclusive. In addition to the United States, such missiles were in service only in Canada, Great Britain and Australia.

AMRAAM-D is an upgraded version of the missiles previously used by both the F-16 fighters and the NASAMS air defense system. With a more powerful engine, improved control systems and data link, this missile will give Norwegian warplanes more capabilities to deal with modern airborne threats.
Earlier it was reported that Norway sold 32 F-16 fighter jets to Romania for 388 million euros. The deal also includes logistical support and an additional package of US-provided equipment and services.
