Putin submitted to the State Duma a draft law on the termination of the EU conventions on the protection of human rights and the suppression of terrorism in relation to Russia

Russian President Vladimir Putin submitted to the State Duma a draft law on the termination of international treaties of the Council of Europe with respect to Russia, RIA Novosti reports .

These are the following agreements:

— Charter of the Council of Europe;

—General Agreement on Privileges and Immunities of the Council of Europe, as well as five protocols thereto;

—Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, as well as its ten protocols;

— European Convention for the Suppression of Terrorism;

— European Charter of Local Self-Government;

—European Social Charter.

It is specified that the international treaties of the Council of Europe will be considered terminated in Russia from March 16, 2022.

On March 16, Russia was expelled from the Council of Europe and the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights. A month earlier, the UN General Assembly suspended Russia's participation in the UN Human Rights Council, the decision was made after the world learned about the genocide of civilians in Bucha. 93 countries voted in favor of the resolution to exclude Russia, 24 voted against (including China, North Korea, Iran and the republics of Central Asia). Abstained - 58, including India and Brazil. The procedure for suspending Russia's membership was launched at the initiative of Ukraine and Poland. The Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe condemned the recognition of the "DPR" and "LPR" and Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Russia's membership in the Council of Europe was suspended on February 25, a day after the start of the war in Ukraine.
