Aid for Israel and Ukraine moves forward in Senate

Eighteen Senate Republicans joined most Democrats in moving forward a $95 billion foreign aid bill that would support ongoing conflicts in Israel and Ukraine in a rare Sunday vote, teeing up a Senate vote possibly within days—but it faces an uphill battle in the House.

The bill advanced in a 67-27 procedural vote Sunday, with 18 Republican senators’ support, but did not include any funding for the immigration crisis at the southern border, which Republicans had previously demanded.

But a Biden-backed bill that folded in funding for the border was attacked by Trump—who has made solving the border crisis one of his chief campaign issues—which left the bipartisan legislation without enough Republican support.
