Do you know that there is also an umbrella street in Armenia? It's not in the capital of Armenia - Yerevan, but in town Talin. Talin is that very town where you can find umbrella sky in the street.


About Talin, Armenia

Talin town is located 66 kilometres from the capital of Armenia, Yerevan, in the Aragatsotn region. 18 kilometres from the city you can find the railway station Karmrashen. Talin is considered to be one of the oldest settlements in Armenia. The first mention refers to the 1-2 century.

Talin was the centre of the Armenian principality in 5-7 centuries. Many architectural monuments of the early Middle Ages are preserved here, including the Katoghike temple. The founder of the temple is Nerses Kamsarakan, who is known as the "Church Builder".

In 1930, Talin district was formed, the centre of which was the urban-type settlement Verin Talin (as Talin was originally called) . In 1995, after Armenia moved to a new administrative division, the district was abolished. In the 70s, a butter factory, an asphalt concrete plant, household electrical appliance plants, a branch of a knitting factory, a folk theatre, and an incubator station worked in Talin.

The most interesting places in the city are the Small Church and the Big Temple (cathedral church) . Small Church, which is located in the centre of Talin, has been known since the second half of the 7th century. It was built by prince Nersekh Kamsarakan.

Kamsarakan (this is a powerful Armenian noble family) also built the Great Talin temple, which is known from the 7th century. The cathedral has a rich decoration (a variety of ornaments, decorative arches with floral motifs, niches, columns, carvings), well lit, thanks to the presence of 28 large windows.

Unfortunately, an earthquake that occurred in 1840 destroyed the dome and part of the walls. In 1947, the restoration of the church began, which continued in 1970-1974.
