Brazil Legend Ronaldo Dumps Comeback Rumours

Brazil legend Ronaldo de Lima has suddenly rubbished reports that he will be coming out of retirement to make a comeback for Fort Lauderdale Strikers.

The 38-year-old, who retired in 2011, became a part-time owner of the North American Soccer League side in December and hinted he could put his boots back on if they needed him in the play-offs.

Last month, the 1994 and 2002 World Cup winner told Lance! his return was “going to happen” and he was even pictured with a fitness coach, who claimed he needs to lose at least ten pounds.

However, Ronaldo has now made a strange U-turn via his official Twitter account, claiming there that reports of him making a comeback are not true.

“There’s a story going round that I am making a comeback, there’s even a hashtag #RonaldoVoltou (#RonaldoReturns)," he said, as translated by Reuters.

“This story about #RonaldoVoltou is just nonsense from the Twitter crowd.”

It is unclear why Ronaldo has made a strange U-turn and dismissed the original reports.

Perhaps, it was just a marketing stunt with his new club, alternatively he may have lost interest or got cold feet.
