An arrest warrant was issued Wednesday night for Guatemalan President Otto Perez Molina, who prosecutors say orchestrated a massive fruad scheme.

Guatemala's Attorney General's offfice announced early Thursday morning that the judge in charge of the case had issued an arrest warrant for Mr Perez Molina.

The order from Judge Miguel Angel Galvez comes just a day after Mr Perez Molina was stripped of immunity from prosecution and banned from leaving Guatemala.

The scandal surrounding Mr Perez Molina has plunged Guatemala into chaos only days before a presidential election, which will take place on Sunday.
