Looking at the published cadres, it is difficult to imagine that just two years ago these lands were the bottom of a large Guatemalan lake, which played an important role in the life of the local population.

Lake Atescatempa in southern Guatemala, near the border with El Salvador, was known for its vast blue-green waters that supported fishing and tourism for the nearby city. But a prolonged drought left only a few dirty puddles in the deserted shells from the pond.

Fighting hunger, many people affected by drought depend on food rations. Drought affects the Central American Central American Dry Corridor, stretching from Guatemala to Panama. It is assumed that one of the causes of the disaster is climate change and human activities, such as resource extraction and irresponsible agricultural practices.
