Portuguese ex-pro Luis Figo, who famously played for Real Madrid and FC Barcelona during his heyday, has provided some interesting quotes on Monday about the two best players in world football: Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

Speaking at promotional event, Figo challenged the notion that Ronaldo and Messi are the best players to have ever played the game.

Also apparently ignoring the challenges of Pele and Diego Maradona to that title, Figo voiced his belief that he may have played with better players than Messi and Ronaldo during his career.

Figo told a room of reporters:

I think this year, the Champions League will be won by either Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern or Chelsea.

I think there’s almost a monopoly [in La Liga] between the two strongest teams of all time in Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Messi and Cristiano are players who make the difference more so than anyone else. I’ve had the pleasure of playing alongside great players, both as teammates and opponents, possibly better than Cristiano and Messi.

Sadly Figo failed to name names of those players he believed were better than the current Real Madrid and Barcelona superstars.
